Amanda Howell

President

Amanda joined the YNPN Board as the Programs Co-Chair in 2019 to further the mission of creating a community for nonprofit professionals to work together towards social good here in Charleston. After her experience as a classroom teacher with Teach For America in Oakland, CA, she relocated to the Carolinas to pursue a Master’s degree in Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill. Her focus on school-based obesity prevention initiatives in underserved communities, including gardening- and cooking-enhanced nutrition education programs, led her to her current work. Amanda has a passion for education, social justice and all-things-food, and currently serves as the Development Director for local Farm to School nonprofit, The Green Heart Project. Amanda is excited to be working with YNPN and can’t wait to see what this year has in store!

Kristin Bastian

Secretary + Chapter Congress Representative

Kristin Bastian is the Operations and Risk Management Director at Origin SC, located in North Charleston, SC, and has worked at the agency for eight years. During her time at the multi-service agency, she has worked in several different divisions and has used her business education and understanding of financial information to help improve the financial position of the education and counseling programs. Kristin has been focused on the Financial Education and Consumer Credit Counseling programs for the past six years in counseling, operations, and management of all facets of the business. Recently, Kristin has shifted into grants management and operations for the entire agency. She served on the Council of Member Affairs for the National Foundation for Credit Counseling for three years and currently serves on the Council of Advisors on Consumer Credit for the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs. Kristin is a graduate of the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administrations, and is married with two boys, 10 and 4.

Jonathan Rauh

Treasurer + EDI Chair

Jonathan Rauh is the Vice President for Evaluation and Public Policy at Trident United Way. Jonathan received his PhD in Public Policy in 2014 with a focus in policy analysis and quantitative analysis from the University of South Carolina. Prior to his current position he worked in academia as faculty at East Carolina University and currently serve as adjunct faculty at the College of Charleston where he teaches Public Policy, Administrative Law and Quantitative
Analysis. Jonathan has also worked in regulatory and legislative affairs in both the education and health insurance sectors. He resides in Hanahan with his wife, Amanda, their son, Ellis, and dog, Dweezil.

April Richardson

Marketing Chair

April Richardson is a native of Charleston, SC who has worked in community outreach for over seven years. She has previously served as an an AmeriCorps VISTA under Trident United Way’s Financial Stability Program coordinating two county veterans’ resource fairs as well as building partnerships and awareness for local programs. Most recently, April worked as an outreach liaison and volunteer program manager for a local nonprofit. 
April is a graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor’s in Communication Studies. 

Allie Astor

Programs & Events Co-Chair

Born and raised in Vermont, the College of Charleston (and a love for sunshine and warm weather!) brought Allie down to the Charleston area in 2014. Throughout her undergraduate career, she was involved with multiple on-campus organizations and engaged with many nonprofits both within the Charleston community and during her semester abroad in Costa Rica, which she credits as the catalyst for her interest in the nonprofit sector. One of these engagements included an internship with The Green Heart Project, a local farm-to-school nonprofit where she now serves as the Farm to School Program Coordinator.

After graduating from the College in 2018 (B.A. International Studies) and leaving Charleston for a year to work for an environmental nonprofit in Boston, Massachusetts, Allie is thrilled to be back in the Charleston area working with The Green Heart Project and joining the YNPN Board. With a passion for community building, environmental advocacy and social justice, she looks forward to supporting the YNPN team in fostering a strong nonprofit community in the Lowcountry and seeing the ways that collaboration, communication and commitment can positively impact the city of Charleston and beyond.

Emily Cruse

Programs & Events Co-Chair

Emily is originally from “Coal Country”, WV where she always imagined what it would be like to live in Charleston, South Carolina. After completing College, she, her husband, and pup moved to several places before landing in Charleston seven years ago.  She has a bachelor degree in Education and a Masters Degree in School counseling. Currently, she is serving as a Program Manager with a local nonprofit, Be A Mentor, that matches youth in the Low Country with Positive adult role models.She is always looking for ways to better serve the community where she lives. For the past 10 years, she has created and facilitated a local Special Olympic bowling Tournament in Lewisburg, WV where up to 70 athletes participate. She has created multiple local events such as: Community cookout, Easter Egg Hunt, Holiday “Shine the Light On kindness”, Girls Empowerment Celebration for kids.  She is a supporter of Heart, Special Olympics, Dock Street Theater, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She believes in finding ways to help ALL children, gaining more understanding of community needs and finding ways to connect organizations so that we can make a deeper impact.

Jenna Johnson

Nominating Chair + CoFounder

A Clemson University graduate (B.A. Political Science), Jenna Johnson has worked with marketing firms, chambers of commerce, political camps, and nonprofit. Jenna joined the Charleston Southern University MarComm team as the Assistant Director of Integrated Marketing in 2017, where she oversees media relations and digital communication including social media, email marketing, and the website. Prior to that, Jenna worked at Origin SC for nearly six years, and was responsible for approximately $2 million in annual grant funding and the organization’s marketing strategy. In addition to her marketing and grants management duties, she supervised and mentored AmeriCorps VISTA members. In 2016, Jenna led the complete rebranding of the 128-year-old nonprofit – with a new name, logo, and brand messaging – in order to better connect with the community and clients.

While connecting with other young nonprofit professionals in the greater Charleston area, Jenna co-founded the first Young Nonprofit Professionals Network chapter in South Carolina in 2015 along with Adam White. In the chapter’s first year, they gained 150 members! Jenna is passionate about community and political involvement, and is active in her city, neighborhood, and church. In October 2016, Jenna was chosen as one of the 20 To Know in North Charleston by the Post & Courier. Her most recent accolade is 2019’s Forty Under 40 by the Charleston Regional Business Journal.

Jenna is also married to Josh, with two young kiddos, Julia and Jonas, and an 12-year-old fur baby, Brady.

Adam White

Ex-officio + CoFounder

Adam White was born and raised in Virginia, and attended Brevard College (NC) and Trident Technical College in Charleston where he studied hospitality management. A South Carolina resident for the past 15 years, Adam has nearly two decades of experience in the hospitality industry. White is the former Executive Director for the nonprofit Chase After a Cure, and currently works as an operations manager at Icebox Bar service. In addition, Adam serves as a nonprofit advisor and volunteer for two Lowcountry organizations, With Purpose and Going Places. During his time at Chase After a Cure, Adam led efforts to incorporate the organization into an official nonprofit (in 2010) and raised over $1 million to support childhood cancer research and awareness.

Adam is ex-officio and co-founder of YNPN Lowcountry, the first Young Nonprofit Professionals Network chapter in South Carolina.  The national network strives for professional development, networking and the sharing of resources among young nonprofit professionals and leaders. Adam is a graduate of the Nonprofit Leadership Management programs at both Francis Marion University and Winthrop University. Adam is also a member of the 2016 Leadership Dorchester class.
